Abigail B has a huge personality and lots of
passion.
She is passionate about
teaching.
She enjoys people and the opportunity to work with individuals,
discovering what motivates them and inspiring them to learn. She
finds teaching invigorating. There is always something new to
learn... for both her and the student.
She is passionate about people of all
ages learning to love music.
She started teaching 15+ years ago in her
Chords2Character studio. The name grew out of a desire to
develop musical skills while also encouraging character qualities
such as responsibility, alertness, and determination (just to name
three of the chosen ten).
She is passionate about seeing dreams
achieved…her own and others.
She studied classical piano with Phyllis Heppner, Joanne Sommer,
and Edward Parker. She practiced long and hard to achieve her ARCT
in teaching piano with the Royal Conservatory of Music. Much to her
thrill she earned the Gold Medal for Canada! (This
was the result of receiving the highest mark in all of the RCM ARCT
exams for that year.)
Believing in her students she seeks to inspire them to achieve
more than they personally thought possible. Varying the content and
structure of each lesson, she knows the importance of enjoying the
process if you are to reach your ultimate goal.
She is passionate about youth around
the world.
Moving to Oklahoma, she worked for two years as a
leader/mentor/piano teacher at a facility for troubled girls.
Later, in Kenya, East Africa, she was a full time dorm mom (for
another two years), caring for 18 lively high school girls at an
international boarding school. She also taught piano/theory/
creative approaches to making music/history of sub-Saharan African
music/music history through the ages /etc.
She is passionate about learning and
growing and experiencing new things.
She enjoys… studying in order to increase her skills as a
teacher and performer… travelling and seeing new places… wandering
through museums and digging into the past… visiting libraries and
reading books galore… learning about people and what makes them
tick (so that she can be a better teacher) and… she really loves
her coffee (especially with hazelnut flavouring).
